“Mozartkugeln”

The Mozart ball is much more than a praline – it is a piece of Salzburg to take with you, a symbol of the city’s unique blend of art and indulgence. Invented in 1890 by Paul Fürst, a Salzburg confectioner, who, with his craftsmanship and creativity, created a sweet treat that still stands unmatched to this day.

Fürst Mozartkugeln, traditional chocolate and marzipan confection from Salzburg.

The original Mozart ball by Fürst is still handmade in the traditional confectionery using the same recipe that was created over 130 years ago. A core of the finest pistachio marzipan, encased in delicate nougat and a layer of dark chocolate – a combination that captivates with its harmonious sweetness and fine texture. Each ball is rolled, glazed, and packaged with the utmost precision, making it a small work of art.

But Fürst is not the only master of the Mozart ball. The Schatz confectionery, another favorite among Mozart ball lovers, also impresses with its handmade version. These little delights are also crafted with great care and are a hidden gem for many connoisseurs.

Of course, there are also industrial versions of the Mozart ball, exported worldwide for broader accessibility. However, anyone who has tasted the original knows that no mass-produced product can match the quality and flavor of the handmade varieties.

For visitors to Salzburg, purchasing an authentic Mozart ball is almost a must. The renowned confectioneries are often just a few minutes’ walk from each other, allowing for a small culinary discovery tour of the city.

For guests of the Gentle Hide Designhotel, the world of the Mozart ball is especially close: with the hotel’s central location, the journey to these sweet masterpieces starts right outside the door. A leisurely afternoon walk through the streets of Salzburg, a visit to Fürst or Schatz, and enjoying a fresh Mozart ball with a cup of coffee at one of the charming cafés – this is pure Salzburg feeling.
