Art, Heritage & a New View of the City

There is a new place to discover in one of Salzburg’s most familiar settings.

Since June 2026, the historic Orangerie in the Mirabell Gardens has been home to a new exhibition space dedicated to Salzburg’s UNESCO World Heritage and one of the city’s most famous paintings: Johann Michael Sattler’s Salzburg Panorama.

A New Cultural Space in the Heart of Salzburg

The Orangerie is located within the historic Mirabell Gardens, one of Salzburg’s most beautiful urban spaces. Its new role adds another layer to an area that visitors often know simply as a place for a walk and a view of Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The exhibition brings together the city’s architectural and cultural heritage with Sattler’s famous panorama, creating a fascinating connection between Salzburg as it was and Salzburg as it is today.

Seeing Salzburg From a Different Perspective

The Salzburg Panorama is particularly interesting because it offers a historical view of the city at a time when its urban landscape looked very different.

Standing in the Orangerie and looking at the historic panorama before stepping outside into the present-day Mirabell Gardens creates a unique sense of perspective.

The city becomes the exhibition.

A Perfect Stop Between City Highlights

The Orangerie works particularly well as part of a relaxed day in Salzburg.

Start with a walk through the Mirabell Gardens, visit the exhibition, cross the Salzach and continue towards the Old Town. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities for coffee, lunch or a little shopping.

It is not an attraction that requires an entire afternoon – and that is exactly its charm.

Our Gentle Hide Tip

Take your time around Mirabell rather than simply passing through the gardens on your way to the Old Town. The combination of gardens, architecture, art and the view towards the fortress makes this one of the most beautiful corners of Salzburg.

And now, with the new Orangerie, there is another reason to stop and look a little closer.

For visitors interested in Salzburg’s history, architecture, art and UNESCO World Heritage, the Orangerie is one of the city’s most interesting new cultural additions of 2026.
